It was the '70 City Championship game. That was when Granada won the rematch at Birmingham HS. I met…Read More A.D the next year (Fall of '71) at Stoner Hall at USC, which was where lots of the athletes lived as frosh and I reminded him of that game. I was in the Fernando district back then but fortunately moved into the Granada district for junior high. A.D was shooting pool the Sunday night before midterms week.

The better story is the 1971 City Championship Team, which involved beating the vaunted San Fernando…Read More team with Anthony Davis who, in 1974 scored 6 touchdowns versus Notre Dame. The city playoffs that year were marred with violence, which resulted in the GH Basketball Team playing a game with no spectators at Palisades High, which was reported in Sports Illustrated. The '71 team was perhaps the most talented with Dana Potter at QB and the first soccer style kicker in Al Crumlish.
