These are hard times, with Los Angeles County unemployment .
Some folks have been out of work so long that they've forgotten how to apply for a job. The folks at Shepherd of the Hills Church, 19700 Rinaldi St. in Porter Ranch, want to help.
They've planned a free two-day job and resource fair for June 4 and 5 in anticipation of serving 6,000 job seekers.
On Monday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., they will have a "Prepare Fair" to help job seekers get ready with résumés, interview skills, and online searches and applications.
They'll have a series of free job hunting symposia.
In addition, they will offer these free professional services -- by appointment on June 2 and 3 -- to help candidates develop a professional look for their interviews:
- Make up artists
- Hair stylists
- Wardrobe advisors
- Professional teeth cleaning
Call 818-831-9333 for appointment details.
On Tuesday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., job seekers will have the opportunity to meet with as many as 100 hiring employers. The resource area will offer free tools and services for the soon-to-be-employed.
Again, free symposia led by experienced specialists will be offered throughout the day.
And as a bonus, any qualifying person who finds employment at the job fair will receive clothing and gasoline vouchers to help until their first pay check arrives — courtesy of WorkSource which can also be reached at 888-226-6300.
