Beautifying Chatsworth Trails Park

Beautification grants from the City of Los Angeles have transformed a small parcel of land.

In 2005, Save Chatsworth was awarded a grant from the City of Los Angeles, Office of Community Beautification, for restoration in Chatsworth Trails Park, a 13-acre parcel of land just north of the 118 Freeway, between Topanga Canyon Blvd. and Canoga Ave.

This land was purchased in a three-way deal by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, the County of Los Angeles and Presidio Chatsworth LLC, to be set aside as open space for the surrounding community.  For years, the property had been the unofficial gateway to a large trail system through Devil and Browns Canyons.  Being close to the freeway, it also attracted a homeless population, and dumping and graffiti were problems.

Three years of beautification grants enabled Save Chatsworth to clean up trash, remove invasive plant materials, plant trees and native plant seeds, install fencing, and design two information kiosks with panels on display that detail Chatsworth history, local wildlife and plant materials, and a trail map.  Through the years, we have been helped over and over by Chatsworth Hills Academy School - parents, teachers and students have volunteered countless hours of community service.
