Umbay Sisters Are Swimming in the Junior Olympics

Both girls represent Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth.

Deanne Umbay and Gazelle Umbay from Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth are competing in the Southern California Junior Olympics Championships from Jan. 18-21 at the Historic East Los Angeles College.  

Older sister, Deanne, an eight-grader and swimmer of Rose Bowl Aquatics, qualified to compete in six events.  She will swim in the 400-yard individual medley, 200-yard, individual medley, 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard backstroke and 100-yard backstroke.


Gazelle, a seventh-grader and advisory student of Olympian-great, Matt Biondi at Sierra Canyon School, will compete in six events as well.  She will swim in the 50/100/200-yard butterfly and 50/100/200-yard backstroke.  

In November 2012, both girls swam for the school and championed at the Delphic League Middle School League.  Sierra Canyon took 3rd over-all in the meet upsetting the likes of Oaks Christian and Viewpoint.
