A bake sale is held to raise funds to purchase flash cards for each Haddon pupil.

For the 13th consecutive year, middle school students from Chatsworth's Sierra Canyon School spent a recent morning at Haddon Avenue School in Pacoima leading activities and teaching math.

This year, the seventh and eighth grade students once again taught multiplication skills to third grade Haddon students.  A bake sale was held to raise funds to purchase flash cards for each Haddon student, and the additional money will be spent on other math school supplies.

Using fun math games which emphasized not only multiplication facts but positive reinforcement, all of the students had a wonderful morning.  The final activity was to make Valentine cards for each other; this included a geometry lesson on shapes that can make a heart.

The Haddon students described the day as “My best day ever,” “Spectacular,” “Incredible,” and “Joyful,” and these words were echoed by the Sierra Canyon students.  Everyone had an amazing time and felt sad when it was over.  The Sierra Canyon students displayed great compassion, caring, patience, and kindness.
