Eligible students can receive up to $12,192 a year to pay for college expenses.

Editor's Note: There will be a free Cal Grant Workshop, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Canoga Park FamilySource Center, 21400 Saticoy St., 2nd Floor, Canoga Park.

From Assemblymember Bob Blumenfield, 40th District:

With tuition costs rising, financial aid is even more important to ensure that California’s working families can send their kids to college. That’s why I’ve teamed up with Congressman Howard L. Berman to help students access loans and grants. My focus is to preserve funding for Cal Grants in the state budget so that all students who want to go to college, but may not be able to afford it, can apply for help.

In the next several weeks there will be several Cash for College workshops in the San Fernando Valley to help college students apply for financial aid before the March 2 deadline.  Congressman Berman and I are trying to make sure every Valley student has all the information they need to apply. I am also launching a public service announcement campaign in the Valley about Cal Grants (click here to view).

Students who are eligible for Cal Grants can receive up to $12,192 a year to pay for college expenses.  For more information about the Cash for College workshops and a list of items to bring, please go to www.calgrants.org.
