State Sen. Fran Pavley Announces Re-Election Bid

She will seek a seat as representative of the newly formed 27th Senate District.

State Senator Fran Pavley will seek a second term in 2012. Her campaign issued a statement Thursday about Pavley's intention to run as a candidate for the newly formed 27th District. Her current District 23 includes parts of Chatsworth.

"I would be honored to represent the people of the newly drawn Senate District 27," Pavley, a Democrat, said in the announcement. "I have life-long ties to this district. I was raised in the San Fernando Valley and spent nearly 25 years as a middle school teacher in Moorpark. My husband and I raised our two children in Agoura Hills and I was the first mayor of the city."

The new district also includes Chatsworth, Stevenson Ranch, Simi Valley, Calabasas, Westlake Village and Hidden Hills. It notably does not include Santa Monica, with which Malibu shares a school district. The separation of Santa Monica from Malibu in the Senate district map approved last month was one of the issues with the redistricting process that irked leaders in that area.

"I'm confident that the issues I am focusing on in the Legislature will resonate in the new district," Pavley said. "The people in Senate District 27 care about creating jobs; improving education; clean energy innovation that grows our economy and improves air quality; sustaining our water supply; working with our local police, fire and district attorneys to keep our streets safe and protecting consumers. I look forward to running on my record of accomplishment in these areas."
