Sierra Canyon School to Begin Variel Avenue Construction

Street widening is expected to be completed by May 18.

If you've ever driven north on Variel Avenue, you've noticed that the street narrows and jogs to the left at Rinaldi Street as it passes the Sierra Canyon lower school campus.

Well, it seems the school has been encroaching on the public right-of-way and after considerable negotiation is going to begin construction to widen the street starting today.

The Chatsworth Neighborhood Council received a letter from the school which said:

"Sierra Canyon anticipates starting construction of the public improvements on or about April 16, 2012, which will be continuous daily, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

"The estimated completion date of construction of the public improvements, weather permitting, is May 18, 2012.

"The construction activities will include street widening, curb, gutter, sidewalk and equestrian trail modifications. Continuous traffic flow will be maintained in both directions throughout the construction period."
