'Road Spam' Trailer Bill Awaits Brown's Pen

AB 1298, recently passed the legislature, is awaiting action by the governor who has until October 9 to sign or veto it.

From Assemblyman Bob Blumenfield:

We are winning the battle to rid our streets of mobile billboards—what I like to call "Road Spam." Since enactment of my legislation (AB 2756) last year, and the City of LA's related ordinance effectively banning them from our community, hundreds of these eyesores have been removed from San Fernando Valley streets.

But the fight is not over yet. As I'm sure you have seen, "blight merchants" have devised clever ways to get around the new law - such as hitching the billboards to bikes, baby strollers, sleighs, scooters and inoperative clunker vehicles. In response, I authored follow-up legislation to make it even more clear that the City of LA has the authority to regulate and ban these new contraptions as well.

Knowing of your interest in this issue, I wanted to let you know how you can send a message to the governor urging him to sign AB 1298 into law. After entering your name and email address, select "other" in the box that says "please choose your subject," and then "submit." You may then type a message such as "Please sign AB 1298 to help get mobile billboards off our streets."
