Pace Picks Up at NW Valley Polls; Check Back All Day for Updates

Here are links to the candidates, voting information and issues affecting Northridge, Chatsworth and Porter Ranch.

As we go to the polls today, Northridge-Chatsworth Patch is devoted to bringing you the information you need about every important race. Bookmark this page for updates all through the day.

Update 7 p.m.: Voters returning from work began to crowd polling places in the northwest Valley at about 5 p.m.

At a residential garage voting station in Chatsworth, 458 local residents had voted out of 1,375 registered. And 79 voters received provisional ballots.

About 51.6 percent of registered Los Angeles County voters had cast ballots as of 5 p.m., according to the Registrar's Office.

There was also an early morning surge of voters at local polling places.

But even with a smooth flow of voters, there was at least one reported glitch.

A young voter who recently registered and carried a sample ballot with his name and address imprinted was given a provisional ballot because his name was not in the roll book.

According to California Secretary of State Debra Bowen, "Under federal law, a person who is voting for the first time in a federal election is required to provide proof of identification, even if their name is on the polling place roster. If the voter cannot provide proof of identification, the voter will be asked to cast a provisional ballot. The elections official will verify the voter's eligibility by comparing their signature on the provisional ballot envelope with the signature on their voter registration form and if the signatures match, then the ballot will be counted."

He provided additional identification, but was still required to use a provisional ballot.

Vote for Romney; we can't afford the reckless spending of Obama. $6 Trillion dollars down the drain and what do we have to show for it? Unemployment was 4.8 when O took office, now it is 4.9% Gas was $1.86, now it is way over $4.00 here in CA 32 million on food stamps when he entered office, now 47 million on food stamps. 1 in 6 Americans now living in poverty which is way more than when O entered office. $10 Trillion debt when O started ruining our country, and now it is $16 Trillion. Every resident owes $51,000 of that debt. We will end up like Greece if this continues. Use TaxBBalloon.com to see how much more your taxes will be in 2013 if ObamaCare is not stopped. $7,000 more in Fed+State taxes next year for $100k income....And that doesn't include all the FOUR new tax hikes that LA City Council is attempting to impose on us next year. 12.4 % unemployment here in CA. Vote no for 30 and 38. Vote yes for 32 so the politicians won't continue being bribed by the unions. Just 3 years from now 40% of LA City's budget will be used for pensions +retiree benefits, so much for services! Have you seen the sludge in our streets. Street sweeping was every 4 weeks; now it is every 22 weeks! Shame on the LA politicians who have been bought off by the unions and therefore gave away lavish pensions!

It is always shocking to me how uninformed people like Jo are, never doing their homework and never checking facts. They are easily manipulated and in order to sound like they know what they are talking about, have adopted the above the Tea Party talking points. All of the numbers are WRONG! It is apparent that all her information comes from Fox News, i.e., the Tea Party newsletter, and right wing talk radio show hosts.

My polling place (Topeka Avenue Elementary School) was perfect. No waiting, friendly volunteers, everything in working order as far as I can tell. It was a breeze (well, the actual voting part -- figuring out the myriad of propositions, etc. was really NOT FUN.)

Thank you, Pat S. You put it perfectly.
