Neighborhood Councils Fighting for 2012 Election [VIDEO]

Jill Banks Barad is leading the campaign to retain next year's elections. Councils are offering to run the elections themselves.

The Los Angeles City Council is preparing to cancel the 2012 neighborhood council elections because of budget cuts, but councils are now seeking permission to run their own elections.

The City Clerk’s Office has been allocated more than $1 million to run elections for 95 neighborhood councils in even-numbered years. Jill Banks Barad, chair of the Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Councils which represents 34 Valley councils including Chatsworth, talked about the issue Monday night.

Barad is also president of the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council.
