Eric Garcetti, longtime Los Angeles City Council member and early declared candidate in the race to become the city's next mayor, at the home of a Chatsworth supporter on Sunday afternoon.

Garcetti shared with event-goers his roots in the Valley, having grown up in Encino and near his grandparents in Van Nuys. He went on to talk about his plans to make Los Angeles more business-friendly by eliminating the taxing of gross receipts, and laid out his vision for Los Angeles as the "Detroit of electric vehicles."

The event, which was billed as a "coffee and conversation," attracted an audience that included retirees, business owners, and community volunteers.

Filiberto Gonzalez opened his home on Oso Avenue for the event. "Whether it's trash service or public safety, city government has the greatest impact on our day-to-day lives. That's why I wanted to host Eric and give my neighbors the chance to meet and ask serious questions to a leading contender for Los Angeles mayor," Gonzalez said.
