Judge Delays Demolition Plans at Santa Susana Field Lab

A superior court judge has halted plans for demolishing and removing debris from a former nuclear research lab at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory, the Daily News reports.

Court Judge Allen Sumner in Sacramento issued the preliminary injunction citing that the site still houses radioactive material and that property owner Boeing's plans would be in violation of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the paper reports.

The decision overrules the OK handed down by the state's Department of Toxic Control Substances, which is reviewing the ruling and is optimistic that the judge would eventually agree that the division complied with CEQA laws, according to the Daily News.
