Harassment Suit Filed Against Mitch Englander's Top Aide

A former staffer says inappropriate comments were made toward her about her personal life.

A harassment suit has been filed against LA City Councilman Mitch Englander's chief of staff alleging the official made inappropriate remarks toward a former female aide, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The woman, identified as Jane Doe, says in her claim that John Lee asked about her sex life and made jokes about her boyfriend's sexual abilities, according to the Times.

The Daily News reports that the former aide had to quit in April because of the harassment and alleges in the lawsuit that she was wrongfully terminated.

Englander's spokeswoman, Stephanie Saporito, said the claims were untrue and issued a statement that the councilman was unaware of the alleged conduct until the suit was filed.

"The first I heard of these allegations was when I learned about this lawsuit, which is surprising because my office has always had a system in place where any situation like this would immediately surface and be dealt with," the statement read.

The lawsuit was filed just days after fellow Councilman Jose Huizar was sued for alleged sexual harassment by his former deputy chief of staff. Click here to read that story on Eagle Rock Patch.
