Englander E-News: Public Safety Officials Honored, Used Linen Drive and More

Englander Appointed to Chair Community Care Facilities AdHoc Committee

This week, I was appointed by Council President Herb Wesson as Chair of the AdHoc Committee on Community Care Facilities.

The Committee is comprised of Councilmembers representing the City's broad geography and interests, and was convened with the goal to further discuss, craft and improve the draft legislation that was previously considered by the City Council.

Councilmember Jose Huizar will serve as Vice-Chair and Councilmembers Mike Bonin, Felipe Fuentes and Curren Price will also serve on the committee.

I look forward to working with the committee to bring forth a common sense ordinance that protects our neighborhoods without impeding the great work of honest facility operators.

-Mitchell Englander, Councilmember, Twelfth District

The 2013 E Awards For Excellence in Public Safety

Yesterday, my office hosted the 2013 E Awards For Excellence in Public Safety Recognition Luncheon for public safety personnel in the San Fernando Valley.

Joined by Mayor Eric Garcetti, City Controller Ron Galperin, Councilmembers Bob Blumenfield, Joe Buscaino, Felipe Fuentes and Paul Krekorian, and many others, we recognized outstanding individuals of the San Fernando Valley.

This year’s E Awards are a continuation of a long tradition of recognizing public safety heroes for their extraordinary acts of bravery and service with the Police Officers, Firefighters and Paramedics Recognition Luncheon initiated by former Councilmember of the 12th District, Hal Bernson, and continued by Councilmember Greig Smith, and the Z Awards for ExZellence, started by Councilmember Dennis Zine.

The E Awards is a tribute to our heroes of public safety for the incredible service they provide to our community, honoring our San Fernando Valley tradition while embracing the new.  We recognized only a handful of the many law enforcement and public safety personnel who put their lives on the line each and every day to protect our community.
