Councilman Garcia Won't Run for Re-Election

Councilman Joe Garcia said Tuesday night that he will not be seeking a fifth term on the Monrovia City Council.

Monrovia Councilman Joe Garcia announced Tuesday that he will not run for re-election in April.

A somber Garcia made the announcement at Tuesday's city council meeting.

"This community has entrusted me with their support and has given me the privilege to represent them," Garcia said. "As my fourth term comes to an end I have decided after considerable reflection and soul searching to not seek re-election in April."

Garcia said he was thankful for the opportunity to serve on the council and praised his colleagues and staff for helping to make Monrovia "the great city that it is."

Mayor Mary Ann Lutz thanked Garcia for his service and wished him well.

"You have served this communuty so well with all of your heart and all of your being," she said.

Councilman Tom Adams said he would miss Garcia and praised him for his work on historic preservation and establishing the city's "Art in Public Places" program.

"Joe's done some incredible things in this town," Adams said.

Aw, I'm sad to see Joe go. It was nice having someone so kind and thoughtful on the council.
