Local LA City Councilman Mitch Englander has filed a motion that pushes for police to be fitted with small video cameras on their uniforms, KPCC reports.
If approved, Englander said having this level of monitoring could reduce police-related violence and trim the money the city spends on settling lawsuits, which totaled $110 million between 2006-12.
But he said there are other benefits as well.
“It’s a tactical tool officers could use when they’re doing building searches, looking around corners, attic searches,” Englander said. “Or when they have a supervisor show up on the scene so they can see and hear from the point of view of the officer.”
