Congressional Candidates Debate Monday at CSUN
Democratic Congressmen Howard Berman and Brad Sherman, and Republicans Mark Reed and Susan Shelly will debate from from 6 to 8 p.m.

The four leading candidates for the 30th Congressional District seat face each other and take on the issues during a debate on Monday night at California State University, Northridge.
The debate—featuring Democratic Congressmen Howard Berman and Brad Sherman, and Republicans Mark Reed and Susan Shelly—is scheduled to take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 30, in the Valley Performing Arts Center on the south side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

The debate is part of “Big Politics – The Series,” which is being organized by the university’s student government, Associated Students, Inc., to inform Cal State Northridge students and members of the community about issues that affect the region, as well as to encourage students to participate in the political process.

“Our goal is to educate people on how important the political process is and hopefully help them become more aware and engaged in the issues that affect them,” said Associated Students President Amanda Flavin. “We also want to underscore the important role the university plays in the region and remind the community that we need to hold our elected officials accountable for their actions on issues that affect us.”
Redistricting has forced Sherman and Berman to vie for the same Congressional seat. Among the others vying for the seat are Reed and Shelley.
The April 30 debate will be moderated by Cal State Northridge alumnus and KFI Radio host Bill Handel.
The debate is the first of three forums that will make up “Big Politics – The Series.” Future forums include a town hall meeting with state legislators and a discussion on Los Angeles’ mayoral race. The state forum is scheduled for Thursday, May 3, and a date has yet to be set for the mayoral forum.
