Candidate and His 'Ed Heads' Celebrate in Chatsworth

It looks like Edward Headington will be in a runoff with Scott Wilk.

The mood was upbeat, even celebratory, as margaritas flowed and "Ed Heads" chowed down on ' Mexican favorites in Chatsworth.

Edward Headington, Democratic candidate for the 38th State Assembly District, was all smiles as election returns trickled in. The computer balked and someone called out, "What's your password?" And without hesitation, he spoke it into the microphone. Why not, he and his wife Sasha were among friends.

Even Republican City Councilman Mitch Englander was there, offering profuse praise for the on-the-verge assemblyman. "I'm the only elected Republican in the Valley," Englander proclaimed, "and I'm here to support a Democrat."

The two agreed that Sacramento is "broken," and the Assembly needs people like Headington to straighten things out.

And so, if late-night voting trends continue, under the new "top two" election process, Headington will spend the next five months campaigning against runner-up .

The sprawling 38th Assembly District includes: Aqua Dulce, Canyon Country, Castaic, Chatsworth, Granada Hills, Newhall, Porter Ranch, Santa Clarita, Santa Susana, Saugus, Simi Valley, Stevenson Ranch, Valencia and Val Verde.
