Blumenfield Thanks the Troops and Operation Gratitude

The 750,000th care package was sent from the Van Nuys National Guard Armory.

Dear Friends,

As we spend time with our loved ones this holiday season, we cannot forget about the sacrifices our troops and veterans have made for our country. I recently took part in Operation Gratitude's herculean effort to send care packages to active troops - something I look forward to doing every year.

The first time I participated in Operation Gratitude's effort was when I worked for Congressman Howard L. Berman. My participation in this effort was one small part of the Congressman's extensive program to service veterans. I continue to do my best to carry forward this important mission as a state representative. This year, I was thrilled to be at Operation Gratitude's annual event at the Van Nuys National Guard Armory when we packed and sent the 750,000th care package.

After our troops return home from Iraq and other deployments, they often discover that their battles are not completely over. From employment assistance to housing, mental health and healthcare services, veterans who come home need our help and support. We owe them a debt of gratitude for their service, and I am committed to making sure their safety net is strong.
