$25M Assembly Bill Can Save 70 State Parks

Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park would benefit from the legislation.

 

The ball is rolling. First, Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park won a one-year shutdown reprieve when to be keep it open to the public.

Now, a $25 million bill has been introduced in the California Assembly to help save all the state parks. Assembly Members Jared Huffman, Wesley Chesbro and Roger Dickinson are calling Assembly Bill 1589 an "urgency statute."

Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park is a 670-acre park located in Chatsworth and is rich with natural, cultural and historical significance. The 8,000-year-old trail was used by game animals and the Native Californian ancestors of the Tongva, Chumash, and Tataviam before being widened into a rough wagon road. Today it’s a popular hiking trail. The park was one of by July 1, 2012 because of lack of funding.
