2 Men Rescued From Chatsworth Cliff

They were stuck on a ledge on Stoney Point 200 feet high, according to authorities.

Two 18-year-old men from the area who decided to go climbing on the western ledge at Stoney Point Park in Chatsworth with no equipment and tennis shoes as the sun sank Tuesday had to be rescued by firefighters.

Firefighters were called to the 300-foot cliff at 10870 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd. just before 7 p.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A helicopter was called, but because of the sheerness of the cliff and the location where the two men feared going up or coming down, it was decided to bring in specialized mountain climbing rescuers. They were about 200 feet up from the base of the cliff, Humphrey said.

The climbers were brought down in separate rescue operations, including the last portion of the descent where the rescuers and rescued dangled above the ground, away from the cliff wall. Neither climber was hurt.
