Three Quakes Shake Southern California
Temblors in the Pacific Ocean and Coachella Valley leave region shaking over night.
A trio of earthquakes shook the Southern California this morning.
The first two quakes were reported at 2:36 a.m., in two different locations in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of San Diego. The larger quake, which registered 6.4 on the Richter scale, was about 170 miles south-southwest of Avalon, and came first at one second after 2:36 a.m. according to the US Geological Survey.
The second quake came 17 seconds later, and registered at 6.1 on the Richter scale. That quake came about 88 miles south-southwest of Avalon.

A third temblor, measured at 4.1 on the Richter scale, was registered 8 miles west-southwest of Salton City. The quake struck at 2:50 a.m.
