Rapper Soulja Boy was arrested on suspicion of having a loaded gun during a traffic stop Wednesday in Granada Hills in which the driver was also taken into custody.

The 23-year-old rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was booked on suspicion of possessing a concealed weapon, Los Angeles police Officer Rosario Herrera said.

The vehicle was stopped because the driver, Abrahim Mustafa, also 23, allegedly ran a stop sign, according to police, who said he was booked for not having a valid driver's license. But TMZ.com reported he was also being questioned in a Jan. 9 hit-and-run in Hollywood involving a Bentley, in which a man was injured.

The traffic stop took place about 4 a.m. in the 17000 block of Barneston Street, which runs east and west between Woodley Avenue and Balboa Boulevard, according to Herrera.

The rapper, whose 2007 debut single "Crank That" spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, was being held in lieu of $35,000 bail, according to county jail records. As of about noon, he remained in custody at the Van Nuys jail.

In 2011, the rapper was arrested for alleged marijuana and gun possession and, last August, he was kicked off an American Airlines flight after a run-in with flight attendants. He later publicly apologized.
