Singer , ex-husband of the late Whitney Houston, was charged Wednesday with three misdemeanor counts stemming from his Monday arrest in the San Fernando Valley on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Brown was charged with one count each of driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol content greater than .08 percent and driving on a suspended license, according to Frank Mateljan of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office.
Arraignment is scheduled April 16 in Van Nuys Superior Court.
The 43-year-old singer was arrested about 12:20 p.m. Monday at Victory Boulevard and Wilbur Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Harris.
According to a CHP report, Brown was driving west on Victory just east of Yolanda Avenue in moderate traffic when an officer saw him talking on a cell phone.
"Mr. Brown displayed objective symptoms of intoxication and was asked to submit to a series of field sobriety (tests) that he was unable to perform as explained/demonstrated," according to the report.
He was taken to the Van Nuys jail and bail was set at $5,000, which he later posted.
According to TMZ, Brown has a DUI conviction on his record stemming from an arrest in Georgia in 1996. He pleaded guilty and served eight days in jail.
Brown rose to fame with the group New Edition. He was married for nearly 15 years to Houston, who died Feb. 11 at the Beverly Hilton hotel, and is the father of the late singer's only child, Bobbi Kristina.
