UPDATE: Injured Burbank Firefighter Airlifted from Stoney Point

He fell about 35 feet, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

An off-duty Burbank firefighter was seriously injured Monday when he fell about 35 feet from some rocks in Chatsworth, authorities said.

Firefighters sent to the Stoney Point area, near the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway and Topanga Canyon Boulevard, shortly before 11 a.m. airlifted the patient to a hospital, said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Capt. Steve Briggs of the Burbank Fire Department said the firefighter, whose name was not released, was practicing rope climbing "and had an equipment mishap."

He "didn't free fall, but got scraped and bruised up as he went down against the rock," according to Briggs, who said he visited his colleague at the hospital "and he was awake throughout and was in great spirits, with his family."
