Reseda Man Held in Alleged Apple Valley Arson and Murder

Aaron John Smith is being held on suspicion of lighting a house on fire during a fraud investigation.

A Reseda man was charged Friday with an arson and murder in Apple Valley, according to Post Periodical.

Aaron John Smith, 37, allegedly set fire to a home in the 20000 block of Outer Highway 18 at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 31. Deputies from the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department were executing a warrant at the property in connection to a fraud case and Smith was reportedly seen fleeing the scene, Post Periodical reports.

He was quickly apprehended, but a fire spread fast from the door where he was seen running from, authorities said. Arson investigators later found the remains of one charred male.
