LAPD officers were on the scene within minutes and detained four people that matched the man's description, but no weapons were found on them, said university spokesperson Carmen Ramos Chandler. She said the search continues for a possible gunman.

The Daily Sundial, CSUN's campus newspaper, reported at 5:13 p.m. that the area southwest of the library was blocked off by police.

But less than an hour later, Chandler says all of the campus is open as the threat assessment continues.

She said the man being sought was that he's in his early 20s, has light complexion and short brown hair and was wearing a red T-shirt underneath a black hoodie. He also has a five-o-clock shadow and was wearing blue jeans.
