Racing Motorcyclist Killed, Another Injured, Police say

Police sergeant says alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

One motorcyclist was killed and a second one injured while racing down a street in Van Nuys Saturday, a police sergeant said.

The crash was on Woodley Avenue near Victory Boulevard at about 3:30 a.m., said Los Angeles police Sgt. David Delgado of the Valley Traffic Division.

One motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics rushed the other one to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Delgado said.

The police sergeant said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Police said Woodley Avenue, between Burbank and Victory boulevards, was to be closed until noon to allow a safe work place for the crash investigation.
