Police Shoot at Stray, Aggressive Pit Bull
Two dogs wander Chatsworth neighborhood; one stares down a resident.
Police, responding to a call about two aggressive dogs in a Chatsworth neighborhood, shot at one of the pit bulls early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
“The dogs didn’t belong at the residence and were running loose,” said Sgt. Tim Walters, Los Angeles Police Department Devonshire Area. “As one of the officers came up to the dogs, one of the dogs attacked the officer … the dog tried to bite the officer. Both dogs ran off.”
Walters said as far as the police department goes, there will not be any follow-up.

The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. on Dale Court near Andora Avenue.
Jim Van Gundy, who serves on the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council, said his neighbor warned him about the shooting because he usually walks his dog early in the morning.

Van Gundy said he believes he encountered the same two pit bulls around 11:30 p.m. on July 27.
He described one as larger than the other.
Van Gundy also said he had a two-minute stare down with the larger dog at the time when he went to his car that night.
“The smaller one went up the street and then the larger dog just stared and then wandered off,” he said.
The city has an animal services division that deals with stray dogs.
