Police Plan North Hills Sobriety Checkpoint Saturday Night

Funding for the checkpoints comes from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Sobriety and driver license checkpoints will be set up by police in three Los Angeles neighborhoods including North Hills this weekend.

A checkpoint will be in place between 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday on Roscoe Boulevard at Gloria Avenue in North Hills.

Checkpoints will also be operated Friday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Hyperion Avenue at Scotland Street in Silver Lake, Hollywood Boulevard at Orange Grove Avenue in Hollywood, and from 6 p.m. to midnight on Western Avenue at 39th Street in South Los Angeles, Los Angeles police said.

"Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough," according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement.
