Police Arrest Transient in Slashing Incident

A 51-year-old man is being held at Van Nuys Jail pending arraignment on Friday.

A 51-year-old transient has been arrested on suspicion of an assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly used a knife to slash the face of customer Bob Pierce outside a popular Chatsworth bar.

Rodi Soliman, who police say has an extensive list of prior criminal activity, is being held at Van Nuys Jail, according to LAPD Detective Humberto Fajardo of the Devonshire police station.

Soliman will be arraigned in San Fernando Superior Court on Friday and is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail, police said.

Pierce required 40 stitches to his face, according to his sister, Nola Chandler.

Chandler wrote in an email to Chatsworth Patch that her brother was resting comfortably since the attack and was relieved to discover police arrested a suspect.

The attacked followed an argument over a missing bicycle around 8 p.m. on Friday in the parking lot of the in the 21600 block of Devonshire Street in Chatsworth.

The attacker fled the scene, according to Senior Lead Officer Daniel Del Valle of the LAPD Devonshire Division.

“The victim said to the suspect, 'Where’s my bike?' ” Del Valle said. “The victim was upset when he thought someone had stolen his bicycle outside of the Cowboy Palace.”
