Stay Away From Rising Water, Fire Department Warns

The Los Angeles River is expected to rise if heavy rains continue as forecast. Swift-water rescue teams are on standby.

Los Angeles firefighters are urging residents to stay clear of the Los Angeles River and flooded streets for the next few days as heavy rains were forecast to move through Chatsworth and the San Fernando Valley.

At a news conference, the head of the Swift Water Rescue Unit of the Los Angeles Fire Department warned that rising water can make the river and flood-control channels extremely dangerous.

"This is no time to be recreating in the L.A. River," said Batallion Chief Jack Wise.
