Nearly 1,000 Dine With Police Officers. Is Your Picture Here?

Fundraiser sponsored by SOLID provides Devonshire Division with equipment not supplied by the city.

As the crowds began to thin, they were counting up the yellow tickets from Friday's annual all-you-can-eat pasta dinner benefitting the Devonshire Division of the LAPD.

"Must be at least 1,000," said one volunteer as she sorted the $8 slips into piles.

The annual fundraiser sponsored by SOLID (Supporters of Law Enforcement in Devonshire) provides LAPD officers at Devonshire Division with office and patrol equipment not provided by the city. And these days, the city is strapped for cash.

But in addition to everyday taxpayers anxious to help out the police -- and get a hearty Italian meal -- the politicians were there. Former Councilman Greig Smith squired councilwoman and mayoral candidate Jan Perry through the food line. And Councilman Mitch Englander pointed out former Assemblywoman Paula Boland from his perch on the stage at St. Nicholas Greek Church in Northridge.

All the food was donated by area restaurants including: , , Cavarettas Italian Deli, Casa de Pizza, Maria's Italian Kitchen, Numero Uno Pizza, Ameci's Pizza & Pasta, COSTCO, Romano's Macaroni Grill, Chi-Chi's Pizza, California Pizza Kitchen, Subway Sandwiches, , and Domino Pizza. Other donors included: Ken Sampson Realtor, and Minuteman Press.

There was also a table providing free Child IDs including a digital picture and thumb print.
