Update: Northridge Man Dies, Another Person Critically Injured in Car Crash

Fire department attempts early-morning rescue on Corbin Avenue.

A Northridge man was killed and another person critically injured in a one-car accident at 2:17 a.m., Wednesday, on Corbin Avenue near Chatsworth Street.

The man, in his 20s, died at the scene, said Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner's office.

Their Honda hit a street light pole in the 10700 block of Corbin Avenue, Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said. Rescuers used hydraulic tools to get the victims out of the vehicle, according to a news video cameraman on the scene, City News Service (CNS) reported.

The car was all but destroyed, Sgt. Ed Washak of the Los Angeles police Valley Traffic Division told CNS.  He said light drizzle may have been falling in the area, but there was no indication slick road conditions were a factor in the crash.

The names of the victims were not released.
