Missing Man Turns Up in Wilshire District

Police return Timothy Norton to Chatsworth nursing home.

A 62-year-old Chatsworth nursing home resident who vanished Sunday evening after facility staff allowed him to leave unaccompanied was found Wednesday morning in the Wilshire District, according to police.

Timothy Norton walked to a 7-Eleven at the intersection of Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Devonshire Street, one block north of Goldstar Healthcare Center, to buy cigarettes. He was last seen there begging for money, according to Goldstar administrator Emmanuel Ruiz. Norton has a history of wandering.

“The officers went to the location where he was found and returned him to his facility. It was handled by a Wilshire patrol unit, west of Downtown L.A.,” said Missing Persons Unit Detective Kuehl, who declined to give his first name.

The details of how Norton ended up some 20 miles away in the Wilshire District, exactly where he was found, his condition, and who notified police were not immediately clear, according to Kuehl. Detective Carlton, who handled this case and Norton’s previous disappearances, was not available to elaborate.
