UPDATED: Man Barricades Self in Chatsworth Home, Found Dead

UPDATE at 1:13 p.m.: A man who was involved in a domestic dispute barricaded himself in a home in Chatsworth today and was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound several hours later, police said.

Officers went to the 9700 block of Kentland Avenue about 8 a.m. on a report of a domestic dispute, said Los Angeles police Officer Wendy Reyes.

Other people who were inside the residence got out safely, and a SWAT team was sent to the scene, Reyes said.

During the standoff, what sounded like a gunshot was heard from inside the residence, said Los Angeles police Officer Norma Eisenman.

Early this afternoon, officers found the man dead in the garage of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of his relatives.
