Lost Hiker Rescued Near Stony Point Park

Helicopter and ground personnel are assisted.

The Los Angeles Fire Department rescued a lost hiker in the vicinity of Stony Point, 11500 Topanga Canyon Blvd. in Chatsworth, Sunday.

The unidentified 33-year-old male who called for aid on his cellphone was hoisted aboard a rescue helicopter, evaluated and released uninjured.

The LAFD utilized both helicopter and ground searchers from Fire Station 96 beginning at about 1 p.m., according the Matt Spence, LAFD spokesman.

The hiker was rescued about 30 minutes later.

Spence offered the following tips for those planning a hike:

  • Never hike alone.
  • Always carry a cellphone with a fully-charged battery.
  • Bring water and snacks.
  • Don't hike at night.
  • If you know you won't be home before the sun starts to set, bring a flashlight.
