Hit-and-Run Driver Gets Nearly 3 Years in Death of Chatsworth High Student

A young woman was sentenced Tuesday to two years and eight months in county jail for a hit-and-run crash that killed a 17-year-old senior who was riding a bicycle in Canoga Park last April.

Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Jessica Silvers imposed the term on , 23, of Oxnard, who pleaded no contest Jan. 27 to one felony count each of gross vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident. She was given credit for the 10 months she has already served.

The charges stemmed from an April 20, 2011, crash that killed , who was riding a bicycle on DeSoto Avenue just north of Valerio Street at about 9 p.m.

Rush's father, , 45, of Porter Ranch, pleaded no contest to one count of being an accessory after the fact for helping to cover up the crime. He was sentenced to 10 days in county jail and ordered to perform 30 days of Caltrans service and three years probation, according to Jane Robison of the District Attorney's Office.
