High Speed Chase Ends Safely in North San Fernando Valley

Speeds hit 110 mph according to police.

A reckless driving suspect in a stolen car was arrested this morning after leading police and highway patrol officers on a high-speed chase from Lake View Terrace to Santa Clarita and back again.

The chase began shortly after 3 a.m. after an officer from the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Division saw a 1997 Honda Civic being driven recklessly in the area of Van Nuys Boulevard and Gladstone Avenue, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Derek Brown of the Foothill Station.

As he followed the car, the officer called in the license plate number and learned the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Pacoima, Brown said.

The officer called in backup and then attempted to pull the Honda over on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway, but the suspect sped off, hitting about 110 mph as he fled north the Golden State (5) and Antelope Valley (14) freeways, Brown said.

Officers broke off the chase as the suspect raced dangerously along the freeway in the area of Sand Canyon Road, he said.

The suspect exited the freeway and got back onto the southbound side, where the California Highway Patrol picked up the pursuit in the area of Newhall Ranch Road, Brown said.

A CHP officer executed a PIT maneuver on the Honda on the southbound Golden State Freeway near San Fernando Mission Boulevard in Granada Hills, Brown said, and the suspect, whose name was not released, and two male passengers were taken into custody.
