UPDATED: Four Injured at Magic Mountain When Ninja Ride Makes Contact with Tree

Four people were injured as the Ninja roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain made contact with a large tree today.

The incident occurred at 5:55 p.m., a Los Angeles County Fire Dispatcher said.

The Los Angeles Times reported two riders were seriously injured.

According to NBC4, park officials said a tree branch fell on the tracks. Reports indicated it was a large tree with a 20-inch diameter.

Rescuers completed getting 22 other passengers off the ride shortly before 9 p.m. They had been stuck about 30 feet above the ground.

Some of the front cars were dangling as county search and rescue team members were trying to secure the cars so they wouldn't plunge to the ground. Rescuers were using lifts and ladders to bring the passengers down.

The clamp that held the first of the four cars came off entirely on one of the cars, but it stayed attached to another car that was still properly suspended. The car whose clamp broke would have fallen to the ground except for the connection with the other car.

"Earlier this evening, a tree branch fell on the track of the roller coaster, Ninja, obstructing the train. Park medical staff and local paramedics were immediately called to the scene. Of the 22 guests safely evacuated, two were transported to a local hospital for precautionary measures," said Connie Lujan a publicist for the park.

"The safety of our guests and employees is our number one priority and as a precaution, the ride will remain closed until a thorough inspection of the area is complete."

The Ninja takes riders on a track at speeds of 55 mph and riders hang from the car and are swung 90 degrees in each direction.
