A car crashed into a power pole in an alcohol-related accident in Northridge early Monday, killing a woman who was a passenger and injuring the man who was driving, police said.

The crash occurred in the 17000 block of Roscoe Boulevard around 12:30 a.m., said Sgt. Paul McLaughlin of the Los Angeles Police Department's Devonshire Station.

Firefighters using heavy rescue equipment extricated the driver from the wreckage of the gold sedan, unconscious but breathing, and transported him to a hospital, McLaughlin said. The woman in the passenger seat was pronounced dead at the scene.
