About 1,400 Department of Water and Power customers lost electrical service Monday when power lines fell across Devonshire Street, starting a fire, leaving one person injured and possibly triggering a transformer blaze a few blocks away.
Live wires fell across Devonshire Street near Independence Avenue about 12:30 p.m. and started a fire at a Bank of America branch, according to firefighters and the DWP.
Sgt. Andy Whitman of the Los Angeles Police Department's Devonshire Division said a man "who had the misfortune" of getting burned by one of the wires was taken to a hospital, but his hand injury was not believed to be life- threatening.

As police were closing the section of Devonshire between DeSoto Avenue and Topanga Canyon Boulevard because traffic lights were out, a transformer caught fire at 10650 Owensmouth Ave., Scott said.
Whitman said Devonshire was partially reopened as of 5:30 p.m., but he didn't know if all the traffic lights had been repaired.
