CSUN Student Allegedly Faked Assault Story; Faces Charges

A 19-year-old student is accused of making up a story about someone breaking into her residence as she slept.

A Cal State University, Northridge student is facing charges for allegedly falsifying a police report about someone breaking into her apartment and touching her bare leg, the school said Friday.

On Oct. 5, 19-year-old Yeni Martinez told police that a male suspect gained access to her University Park Apartment as she slept between 8-9 a.m. She described the suspect as 6 feet tall, 180 pounds and said that he also made off her wallet and other documents.

But over the course of their investigation, CSUN police learned that no such crime had occurred, said Carmen Chandler, a university spokeswoman.

"The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office has reviewed the case and filed charges of false reporting of a crime to a police officer against Yeni Martinez," Chandler said.
