Crime Remains Low in Chatsworth

Lassen Street and Eton Avenue top a slow crime cycle.

During the 14 days from April 22 through May 5, there were 22 crimes in the Chatsworth area, an average of approximately 1.5 crimes a day. Of the 22 crimes, only one was violent. The remaining 21 were made up of thefts, burglaries, thefts from cars and grand thefts autos.

Nine of the crimes (40.9%) occurred during nighttime hours, while the remaining 13 (59.1%) occurred during daylight hours. Of these daylight hours crimes, 8 (36.3%) occurred during regular business hours.

Violent crime made up just 2.2% of all crime while the top crime for this period, theft from vehicles, made up almost a full 50%.

The total breakdown of crime for this time period is: 10 thefts from vehicles, 6 thefts, 3 burglaries, 2 grand thefts auto, 1 aggravated assault.

While it was still technically the most crime-prone street in Chatsworth, Lassen Street suffered fewer police reports during the last 14 days, tying with Eton Avenue for 3 reported crimes each. The rest of the reported crime was spread out fairly evenly with no one street encountering more than two crimes total.

Reported crime in the Chatsworth area is low and the commonly reported crimes are easy to protect against by locking car doors, garages and homes, and hiding valuables from plain view.

April 24

Theft on the 20800 block of Lassen Street  at 2:05 a.m.

April 25

Theft on the 9700 block of Eton Avenue  at 7 a.m.

Burglary on the 10300 block of Jordan Avenue  at 3 p.m.

Theft on the 9300 block of Eton Avenue  at 5 p.m.

April 27

Theft from a vehicle on the 9100 block of De Soto Avenue  at 6:30 p.m.

Grand theft auto on the 9900 block of Independence Avenue  at 7 p.m.

Grand theft auto at Lassen and De Soto  at 9:45 p.m.

April 29

Theft on the 20900 block of Devonshire Street at 10:15 a.m.

Theft on the 9200 block of Winnetka Avenue at 10 p.m.

May 1

Theft from a vehicle at Rinaldi Street and Corbin Avenue at 9:30 a.m.
