Two people who left candles burning in their Chatsworth townhouse escaped injury Saturday when a fire broke out as they slept, a city fire official said.
The fire was reported at 9:33 a.m. in the 10400 block of Larwin Avenue., said Brian
Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
``A man and a woman were asleep in an upstairs bedroom and were awakened by the fire,'' Humphrey said. ``They escaped and attempted to fight the fire with a garden hose.''

Humphrey said the two were unsuccessful, but firefighters had the blaze confined to the bedroom in 13 minutes.
The fire, caused by ``carelessness with candles'' caused around $25,000 damage, Humphrey said.
