'The LAFD arrives within five minutes only 59% of the time,' mayoral candidate says.

Mayoral candidate Austin Beutner who first raised the issue of Los Angeles Fire Department response times, had his staff prepare this interactive map.

"Today, the LAFD arrives within five minutes only 59% of the time, against a stated goal of 90%," he said. "In individual neighborhoods the story is much worse." Find out how long it takes the LAFD to respond in your neighborhood by clicking on the blue map locators.

City Councilman Mitch Englander, who chairs the Public Safety Committee, has  called a special committee meeting for 2 p.m. Friday to discuss problems facing the LAFD.

On February 17, before the latest LAFD response-time issue arose, Englander offered a City Council motion asking the fire department to establish a "Firestat" accounting system similar to the "Crimestat" computer program used by the police department to track incidents and resolutions.
