UPDATE: Pedestrian, Driver Injured as Car Shears Off Fire Hydrant

The pedestrian, a man, was hospitalized in serious condition and the driver, a woman, was taken to a hospital in fair condition.

A car struck and seriously injured a pedestrian and sheared off a hydrant in Chatsworth Wednesday in a collision that also injured the driver.

The crash occurred around 4:10 p.m. at 9100 Canoga Ave., near Nordhoff Street, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The pedestrian, a man, was hospitalized in serious condition and the driver, a woman, was taken to a hospital in fair condition, Humphrey said.

Firefighters shut off the water flow from the hydrant, Humphrey said.

Patch reader Jim Van Gundy was ready with his camera and shared a photo of the accident.

The Canoga Avenue collision is one of two major accidents in Chatsworth Wednesday evening.
