Wildfire Doused Near Metrolink Crash Site

Tossed cigarette may have ignited the blaze.

A brushfire which may have been started by a tossed cigarette at Stoney Point Park was put out before it did much damage Sunday.

The fire erupted in Coyote Pass north of Stoney Point, alongside the Metrolink crash site and close to a barn on Heather Lee Lane.

Sixty firefighters from a combined city-county crew using shovels and water hoses quickly contained the blaze with the help of a water-dropping helicopter. The fire was extinguished in 22 minutes, according to Matt Spence, LAFD spokesman.
