Bicyclist Killed in Saturday Collision Identified

The Los Angeles coroner's office today identified a bicyclist killed in a collision with a pickup truck at a Chatsworth intersection.

He was Samuel Martinez, 47, of Chatsworth, said coroner's Lt. Cheryl McWillie.

The accident occurred at 11:40 p.m. Saturday at Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Lassen Street, said Officer Tim Arroyo of the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division.

The Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was northbound on Topanga Canyon Boulevard and the bicyclist was westbound on Lassen Street, Arroyo said.

"The bicyclist went against the red light,'' he said. After the collision with the pickup truck, the cyclist, now identified as Martinez, was pronounced dead at the scene, Arroyo said.

The truck driver remained at the scene, he said. The accident investigation continues, Arroyo said.
